Zelensky assured Iohannis that the issue of the Romanian minority in Ukraine will be resolved

In a telephone conversation with his presidential colleague Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday, President Klaus Iohannis expressed his deep concern about ongoing Russian military attacks against civilian targets and critical infrastructure in Ukraine, which are considered „war crimes” under international humanitarian law, and condemned „in the strongest terms” Russian airstrikes plunged the neighboring country into darkness and cold.

According to the Presidential Office, Iohannis Zelensky recalled the consistent and multidimensional support provided by our country, both in the form of direct assistance, support for refugees, provision of generators, and facilitation of grain deliveries and in the form of support for Ukraine’s European integration, adoption of sanctions against Russia and measures to isolate Moscow internationally. He mentioned that Romania will support Ukraine and the Ukrainian people for as long as necessary.

The head of state also addressed „in detail” the recently adopted law on national minorities in Ukraine, which has caused concern and discontent among Romanian authorities and representatives of the Ukrainian-Romanian community. Iohannis called on Zelensky to „quickly find solutions to address these concerns” In this regard, the two presidents agreed that the two countries’ foreign ministers will hold talks on the bilateral resolution of these issues shortly, the presidential office said.

Regarding the Ukrainian-Romanian minority, Volodymyr Zelensky expressed „full openness” to the „constructive dialog” proposed by Romania and „confirmed his readiness to continue actively supporting the rights and interests of the Romanian minority in Ukraine.”
